Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 12, 2026 · theeclipse.app
Overview
The Eclipse App ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by The Eclipse Company of Earth, LLC. We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about how we collect and use it.
This Privacy Policy describes our practices for:
– The Eclipse App on iOS and Android (the "mobile app")
– The website at theeclipse.app (the "website")
– Print purchases completed at orbitalperspective.store when linked from our services
By using our services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
Who We Are
Data controller: The Eclipse Company of Earth, LLC
Contact: [email protected]
Location: United States (South Carolina)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you may also contact us at the email above for data protection inquiries.
Scope
Mobile app: You can use the mobile app without creating an account. Data is stored primarily on your device unless you choose to purchase a print or sign up for email updates.
Website: When you save a viewing spot on the website, we may create an anonymous account that you can later link to an email address or sign in with Google or Apple. See Account and identity below.
Print purchases: The mobile app may upload eclipse session data to our servers and open orbitalperspective.store in an in-app browser to complete your purchase. Payment is processed by the store and its payment providers — we do not receive your full payment card details.
Not covered by this policy: Privacy practices of the Apple App Store, Google Play, or other platforms through which you download the app or make in-app purchases. Those platforms have their own policies.
Information We Collect
Account and identity
Website only
– Email address — when you sign in via email, Google, or Apple, or when you contact us
– Anonymous user identifier — created automatically when you first save a viewing spot on the website, before you sign in
– Account metadata — such as your locale preference
Mobile app: We do not offer account creation in the mobile app.
Print and checkout
– Email address — when you complete a print purchase or reservation flow
– Device identifier — a random ID generated on your device to group print orders from the same install (stored on device and on our servers with print orders)
Location and viewing data
Website: When you choose a viewing spot, we store latitude, longitude, place name, and related location fields on our servers to provide eclipse timing and path information for your saved plan.
Mobile app: Your chosen viewing spot and eclipse session location are stored on your device. Live GPS coordinates used during a session are kept in memory only and are not persisted. If you purchase a print, location data from your session is uploaded to our servers as part of the print order.
Eclipse session data
When you record or relive an eclipse session on mobile, session data (such as contact times, audio metadata, and an encoded audio signature) is stored on your device. If you proceed to purchase a print, you will see a consent step explaining what is uploaded; we then store the relevant session manifest and signature on our servers to fulfill your order.
Purchase and order data
– Product selection, order code, and order status — for print orders initiated through our services
– Purchase records — maintained by orbitalperspective.store and its commerce platform when you complete payment (we receive order-related information needed to fulfill your print, not your full payment credentials)
In-app purchases (coming soon): Digital features or subscriptions may be offered through RevenueCat, with payment handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not store your payment card information.
Marketing and communications
– Email address and locale — when you join our newsletter or a waitlist
– Signup source — which form or feature you used to subscribe
We use Flodesk to manage email lists. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails.
Crash diagnostics (mobile app only)
If the mobile app crashes, Sentry may receive diagnostic information such as stack traces, device model, and operating system version to help us fix errors. We do not enable full personal-data collection in crash reports.
Usage analytics (website and mobile app)
We use Google Analytics on the website and Firebase Analytics (Google) in the mobile app to understand how the Services are used — for example, screens viewed, features used, and app version. This helps us improve the experience.
We do not use analytics in regions where cookie or tracking consent is required without a consent banner. Specifically, we disable analytics for visitors and devices in:
– European Union member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden
– Other EEA countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway
– United Kingdom
On the mobile app, we use your device's region setting to apply this list. On the website, we use your device's timezone and disable analytics when it indicates a European region (including the areas above and other European timezones). If we cannot determine your region, we do not run analytics.
Where analytics is enabled, Google may set analytics cookies on the website or assign an app instance identifier on mobile. We do not use analytics for advertising, and we do not collect advertising identifiers. Learn more at policies.google.com/privacy.
See Cookies below for details on strictly necessary and analytics cookies.
Aggregated usage data
We maintain aggregated, non-identified statistics about popular location searches (for example, counts by place ID). These records are not linked to individual users.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
– Deliver accurate eclipse timing, path, and visibility information for your chosen location
– Save and sync your viewing plan on the website
– Fulfill print orders, including handoff to orbitalperspective.store for checkout
– Send local notifications on mobile when you opt in (scheduled on your device for eclipse contact times — we do not use remote push notifications)
– Manage website accounts and communicate about your account or orders
– Send marketing emails you have subscribed to
– Understand how the Services are used and improve features (analytics, where enabled — see Usage analytics)
– Diagnose and fix app crashes
– Respond to support and privacy requests
– Comply with legal obligations
We do not use analytics or advertising identifiers in the EEA, UK, or other regions where we disable analytics as described above.
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA & UK)
Where GDPR applies, we rely on the following bases:
– Contract — providing eclipse data, saving your viewing spot, fulfilling print orders, and managing in-app purchases
– Consent — marketing emails, print session data upload (via the in-app consent step), and device permissions such as location, camera, microphone, photos, and notifications when the operating system prompts you
– Legitimate interests — crash reporting to maintain app stability, and creating anonymous website accounts when you save a viewing spot (balanced against your rights; you may object as described below). We do not rely on legitimate interest for analytics in the EEA or UK — analytics is not collected there.
– Legal obligation — retaining order and tax records where required by law
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf, grouped by role:
– Hosting and accounts — Supabase (authentication, database, print order storage); Google and Apple (sign-in on the website)
– Email — Flodesk (marketing); Resend (transactional email, such as sign-in links)
– Crash diagnostics — Sentry (mobile app crash reports)
– Usage analytics — Google Analytics (website) and Firebase Analytics (mobile app), only outside the EEA, UK, and other regions where analytics is disabled as described above
– Maps and location — Mapbox, Google, and our shadow-map provider (search, geocoding, map tiles, and coordinates when you use map features)
– Print checkout — orbitalperspective.store and its payment/commerce platform (order fulfillment and payment processing)
– App stores — Apple and Google (when you download the app or make in-app purchases through their stores)
These providers process data only on our instructions. Each provider's privacy policy governs its own handling of data. We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertising networks.
International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States. Your information may be processed in the U.S. and in other countries where our service providers operate.
If you are in the EEA or UK, this means your personal data may be transferred outside your country. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards — such as contractual protections with our service providers — to protect that data.
Cookies
Strictly necessary cookies
The website always uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies:
– Supabase auth cookies — maintain your website session when you are signed in (including anonymous sessions). Duration: session or as configured by Supabase.
– Embed cookies (embed_mode, embed_attempted) — enable embedded map experiences when you access theeclipse.app through an authorized embed. Duration: browser session.
We do not set marketing or affiliate tracking cookies on theeclipse.app.
Analytics cookies (selected regions only)
If you are outside the EEA, UK, and other regions where we disable analytics, Google Analytics may set cookies on the website to measure usage. These cookies are not used when analytics is disabled for your region.
The mobile app does not use browser cookies. Where analytics is enabled on mobile, Firebase Analytics uses an app instance identifier instead.
See Usage analytics for the regions where analytics is disabled.
Data Retention
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Website account, plans, and tickets | Until you request deletion or close your account |
| Anonymous website accounts (unlinked) | Deleted after approximately 30 days if not linked to a permanent account |
| Print orders | For the period needed to fulfill your order, handle support, and meet legal/accounting requirements (typically up to 7 years for transaction records where required) |
| Marketing contacts | Until you unsubscribe, plus any period required for compliance |
| Crash reports | Typically 90 days, or as configured for crash diagnostics |
| Usage analytics | According to Google Analytics / Firebase retention settings (only where analytics is enabled) |
| In-app purchase records | According to app store and subscription provider retention policies |
When retention ends, we delete or anonymize data unless we must keep it for legal reasons.
What We Do Not Collect
– Analytics in the EEA, UK, and other gated regions — we disable Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics where consent would be required (see Usage analytics)
– Advertising identifiers — we do not use advertising IDs for analytics or ads
– Remote push notification tokens — mobile notifications are scheduled locally on your device
– Sale of personal data — we do not sell your information
Children's Privacy
Our services are intended for users 13 years of age or older, or the higher minimum age required in your country for consent to data processing without parental approval (in some EU countries, this is 16).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable age. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights and Choices
Device permissions: You can disable location, camera, microphone, photos, or notifications in your device settings. Some features may not work without the relevant permission.
Marketing: Unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email.
Mobile data on device: Uninstalling the mobile app removes locally stored data from your device. Server-side print or waitlist data tied to your email or device ID can be deleted on request.
Website account deletion: Email [email protected] to request deletion of your website account and associated plans, tickets, and related data.
Analytics: We do not collect usage analytics in the EEA or UK. Elsewhere, you may limit analytics cookies through your browser settings; contact us if you have questions about data Google holds about your visit.
GDPR — EEA & UK Users
We do not use Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics for users in the EEA or UK.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to:
– Access — request a copy of personal data we hold about you
– Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
– Erasure — request deletion of your personal data
– Restriction — request that we limit processing in certain circumstances
– Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format where applicable
– Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests, including crash reporting (we will assess your request under applicable law)
– Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting prior lawful processing
– Complain — lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority
To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
CCPA — California Residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, provides you with the following rights:
– Right to know — categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, sources, purposes, and third parties with whom we share it
– Right to delete — request deletion of personal information we collected from you, subject to exceptions
– Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information
– Right to opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
– Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — we use precise geolocation only as needed to provide eclipse and print services, not for inferring characteristics about you
– Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights
Categories collected in the last 12 months: identifiers (email, device ID, account ID); commercial information (orders); internet or network activity (strictly necessary website cookies; usage analytics cookies and events where analytics is enabled); geolocation data (viewing spots and print locations); audio-related metadata (print fulfillment); inferences are not created from this data for profiling.
To submit a request, email [email protected] with the subject line "California Privacy Request." We will verify your identity and respond within 45 days, with a possible extension of 45 additional days where permitted.
Request Data Deletion
Regardless of your location, you may request deletion of your personal data:
– Email: [email protected]
– Subject line: Data Deletion Request
– Include: The email address associated with your website account, print order, or marketing subscription; if requesting mobile print data deletion, include any email used at checkout and describe the request (we can match orders by email or device ID where available)
We will process verified requests and confirm deletion within 30 days, except where we must retain data for legal obligations.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, where required by law, provide additional notice.
Continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy where permitted by law.
